If you still believe in the old fashioned definition that women should be submissive to their husbands and devote their lives to having babies and their husbands…then you have learned nothing!

Stereotypes

Many people, mostly men have preconceived notions about what a feminist is. Many think feminists are “just a bunch of bra-burning, hairy-legged, man hating LESBIANS!

(This is where you list the stereotypes): When asked what comes to mind when you think of feminists, people quickly began shouting unsavory characteristics such as:

• Ugly
• Bitchy
• Angry
• Boring
• Loud
• Annoying
• Butch
• Lonely
• Lesbian.
• Women who make the world worse
• Women who promote homosexuality
• Women who destroy families
• Women who destabilize society
• Rebellious wives
• Tramps
• Turned aside after satin

Definition

TRUE DEFINITION: Feminism is the movement whose goal is to make the social, political and economic rights for women equal to those of men; eliminating gender barriers, and overall pro-woman but not anti-male. They are not saying that men as individuals are the problem; the problem is the unquestioned power they receive because of their sex. Women’s worth in the world has to lead to a system that creates inequalities based on perceived gender differences.

Women in The arts

Previously hidden art by women are beginning to re-emerge. Museums in the U.S. such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art introduced art done by women. The re-emergence shows are noteworthy because it is one of the first women featured art shows to take place in the last ten years. Some believe that many other art by feminist women are going unnoticed because their art doesn’t posses feminist qualities on the surface of the work. “My fear is that feminist art shows only look for feminism on the surface of the work and give little or no credit to the great deal of feminist rigor that serves as a foundation for many female artists. Making art as a female presupposes a certain level of feminism.” Overall, women should be able to make art about whatever they choose to and not be considered a feminist just because they are female artists.

GENDER EQUALITY

· Employment differences is one of the most pressing issues today.

o Women make 70 cents for every 1.00 men make.

· Socially constructed roles

· Human rights for all

· Eliminate gender disparities

WOMEN ARE HUMANS!

• Are underpaid or unpaid and that’s okay.
• What they look like is more important than what they do.
• If they get raped, it’s their own fault...due to the way they dress or even look at a guy.
• If they love women it is because they are incapable of getting a “real” man.
• If they expect community care for their families then they’re considered SELFISH.
• If they stand up for their rights they’re LOUD
• If they DON’T stand up for themselves, they are WEAK. (typical weak female).
• If they marry it’s only to trap the man.
• If they DON’T marry, they’re considered UNNATURAL.
• Because they aren’t deemed responsible enough to decide if when and how they give birth…they are FEMINISTS!

Definition of feminism: Feminism is the movement whose goal is to make the social, political and economic rights for women equal to those of men; eliminating gender barriers, and overall pro-woman but not anti-male. They are not saying that men as individuals are the problem; the problem is the unquestioned power they receive because of their sex. Women’s worth in the world has to lead to a system that creates inequalities based on perceived gender differences.
The intended audience is people who are against feminism and people who are ignorant about feminism and what it truly is.
We chose this topic because we all found out that we all had individual assumptions about feminism. We were swimming in ignorance and blinded by stereotypes. We wanted to show everyone the truth about feminism and how it isn’t what we really thought it was.
Our event is called The Dirty "F" Word. It will be held on Tuesday March 4th at 2pm in Francis Scott Key Hall. We will distribute the flyers in the Stamp Student Union because we want all of the students to be there and understand what feminism really is because they all probably have many assumptions like we all did. This would be a good place to distribute it because many of the students spend time there.
This event will explain the stereotypes of feminism and what it really is. We will explain gender equality, hidden facts, how women are human, a self quiz to see if you are a feminist, and many pictures of stereotypes.
